When Joe and I first discovered this Dept. 56 piece in 1997—(produced only from 1997 to 2001)—we immediately saw a story inside it. The warm glow from the greenhouse windows, the tiny evergreens, the poinsettias, the little gardening tools… it all felt like a glimpse into Mrs. Claus’ quiet world behind the scenes at the North Pole.
This house is one Joe and I personally curated and displayed in our home for many years, as a part of our large North Pole display. This house, and the rest of the North Pole display was the inspiration for us, where we donned the red suits and became Santa and Mrs Claus. In addition, this was the inspiration for most of the books Santa Joe wrote. And the children's books, Santa's Elf Series which I illustrated.
This particular vignette, we built to feel like a moment lifted straight from The Santa Claus Trilogy, the book series Joe wrote. In our story world, Mrs. Claus tends lovingly to winter blooms, evergreens, and poinsettias—bringing a gentle promise of spring to the holidays. That’s the feeling we wanted this piece to capture.
I hand‑arranged every element: the flocked trees catching the frost, the peppermint‑candy stepping‑stone pathway, the potted poinsettias, the topiary planters, and all the charming miniature accessories like the red watering can, coiled garden hose, and potting soil sacks. Joe added the elves transporting evergreens with wheelbarrows and carts—his favorite detail—because it brings the whole scene to life.
This vignette arrives exactly as we designed it: fully staged, illuminated, and ready to enjoy. It also includes an autographed copy of Believe Again, The North Pole Chronicles, along with our dual‑signed Certificate of Authenticity, a congratulations letter, a thank‑you card, and a photo of the finished scene. Every package is wrapped in Christmas paper with Santa‑tags, just the way we send gifts from our North Pole workshop.
Why do I love this piece so much? Because it represents the quieter side of Christmas—the care, the tending, the nurturing, the beauty. It’s a peaceful moment in the North Pole story, and one that inspired Joe to grow his beard, take on the mantle of Santa Claus, and bring this magical world to life for families for more than 25 years.
Like every vignette in The Moore’s North Pole Storybook Collection, this is a strict “One, and Only One” creation. We never duplicate our heirlooms. This piece has been loved, cherished, and created with intention, and now it’s ready to find its forever home with someone who will treasure it as much as we have. See less
