An impressive pair of monumental 19th-century French cast bronze door knockers by ST Bricard, Paris, executed in the Renaissance Revival taste.
Each highly sculptural knocker features a dramatic bearded classical deity mask beneath a stylized crown, issuing an oversized scrolling handle composed of confronting mythological dolphins or sea creatures. Their scaled bodies terminate around a richly modeled shell-form striking plate, creating a bold architectural composition.
Exceptionally heavy and finely cast, the knockers retain a beautiful dark brown aged bronze patina with warm rubbed highlights, emphasizing the sculptural details. One is clearly stamped on the reverse “ST BRICARD PARIS.”
A rare and substantial matched pair of French architectural hardware suitable for an important entrance, architectural collection, or decorative installation.
