The composition depicts a tranquil river or broad lake winding through a mountainous, forested landscape. A tall evergreen anchors the foreground beside a dramatic rocky cliff, while softly rendered hills recede into the distance. Reflections across the water and a luminous blue-and-cream sky give the scene an especially peaceful quality.
The artist uses a combination of loose, impressionistic brushwork and heavier texture through the foreground rocks and vegetation. The muted violet hills, cool blue water, deep evergreen foliage, and warm ochre cliff are characteristic of the naturalistic landscape tradition popular with Soviet-era painters.
The painting is unframed, allowing a new owner to select a frame appropriate to their interior. The exposed canvas margins show the original working edge and evidence of its previous mounting. See less
