The lively, intimate interior scene depicts a woman seated at her dressing table while adjusting her garter, her voluminous blue and white skirts draped elegantly around her. Standing to her right, a maidservant in a flowing dress holds up a piece of lace or millinery, captured mid-motion before a decorative, multi-panel floral folding screen. The lavish 18th-century style room is filled with classical details, including an ornate fireplace on the left topped with decorative porcelain vessels, and rich, red drapery framing the right side of the composition. The artwork is housed in a heavy, deeply molded gilded frame featuring elaborate scrolling flourishes and floral corner details. On the reverse side, the painting reveals a traditional mitered wooden stretcher frame secured with metal retainer clips inside a thick outer wooden frame liner. The raw, naturally aged canvas backing is strung with a horizontal tension hanging wire
