The heavy rectangular iron case features applied notched strapwork, decorative corner mounts and contrasting brass/bronze fittings. The box is raised on four finely cast paw-form feet and fitted with a central brass turn-lock embellished with a crowned heraldic shield bearing a rampant animal, surrounded by foliate ornament.

Weighing approximately 8 lbs despite its compact dimensions, the box has a particularly solid and substantial construction. The interior has been later lined in brown suede.

The richly aged iron surface retains an attractive dark patina with oxidation and wear consistent with age, enhancing its Medieval Revival character. See less
