Measuring approximately 16 x 7 inches, the pillow has a long rectangular format that beautifully displays the surviving botanical composition of the original tapestry.
The design is dominated by large-scale scrolling leaves and botanical forms, particularly visible along the left side, where broad overlapping foliage creates a strong sense of movement. These leaves appear in layers of deep forest green, muted teal, olive, ochre, and warm brown. Toward the center and right, the composition becomes softer and more open, with faded floral and foliate passages accompanied by curving accents in burgundy and warm rust-orange.
The palette has the subdued richness associated with an early tapestry textile, combining antique gold, ochre, camel, tan, warm beige, olive green, forest green, muted teal, gray-blue, rust, burnt orange, burgundy, and brown. Rather than relying on bright color, the textile derives much of its character from the interaction of these mellow earth tones and the substantial texture of the woven surface.
Its unusually bold foliage, centuries-old coloration, and elongated proportions make the pillow particularly effective as a decorative accent. At the same time, it preserves the visual character and craftsmanship of an early Brussels tapestry fragment in a form suitable for a contemporary interior. See less
