The sculpture shows a highly expressive treatment of the face, hair, anatomy and drapery, characteristic of Spanish devotional sculpture of the Baroque tradition. The loincloth retains attractive remnants of gilding, while the body preserves traces of its original painted decoration and a beautifully aged surface.

The figure is preserved without its original cross. Authentic age-related wear includes losses to the polychromy and gilding, small cracks, old mounting holes and areas of exposed wood, all consistent with its age and use.

Originating from Spain and later acquired in the French Pyrenees.
