Bing & Grøndahl Butterfly dish with gilt rim, 1880s. Antique oval porcelain dish decorated in blue underglaze with the classic Butterfly pattern. The decoration is centred around a butterfly medallion with floral scrolls, framed by a distinctive scale-pattern border and finished with a hand-applied gilt rim. A rare early example from Bing & Grøndahl’s late 19th-century production.
Origin: Denmark. Material: Porcelain. Decoration: Butterfly. Dimensions: H. 4 cm, D. 23 cm. Period: 1880s. Condition: Very good antique condition with minimal wear and light, age-related signs of use. The Butterfly pattern was introduced by Bing & Grøndahl in the late 19th century and reflects the light, nature-inspired aesthetics of the Rococo revival. The service is characterised by delicate floral scrolls, insect motifs, and its distinctive scale-pattern border. Early pieces with gilt rims are rare and highly sought after by collectors.
