Grand-scale patinated bronze sculpture of Vénus sortant du bain (Venus Emerging from the Bath), after the celebrated 1767 masterpiece by French royal sculptor Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain (1710–1795). Standing at an impressive 33 inches tall, this substantial salon-sized sculpture captures the peak elegance of the French Grand Tour aesthetic.
This high-quality late 19th-century casting features a deep, rich chocolate-brown patina with subtle golden undertones showing gentle, authentic wear on the high points. The attention to detail is remarkable, particularly evident in the intricately braided neoclassical coiffure and the fluid, realistic folds of the drapery pooling at her feet. The reverse rim of the integral bronze base bears the period-correct, hand-incised inscription: "C·C·ALLEGRAIN·FECIT / 1767".
Constructed via traditional heavy sand-casting or lost-wax method, the sculpture is completely hollow-core underneath with seamless construction, indicating a superior foundry production from the golden age of French bronzes.
At almost three feet tall, this "hero-sized" sculpture is a magnificent statement piece for upscale interiors. It is perfectly scaled to serve as a dramatic focal point on a large entryway console table, centered on a library library table, or displayed on a gallery pedestal.
