This exceptional piece exemplifies the dynamic cultural exchange of the early 20th century, where traditional Chinese iconography was reinterpreted through the lens of Western Art Deco modernism, making it a highly desirable example among antique rugs.

The luxurious, deep pile wool is dominated by a rich, saturated Manchester Blue field, a striking example of blue color rugs from this era. This intense hue provides a dramatic backdrop for the scattered, stylized motifs. The field's minimalist composition is punctuated by small, finely detailed groupings of vases, scholarly objects, and flowering branches, characteristic of the period's emphasis on negative space.

A complex, multi-tiered border frames the central expanse, utilizing deep black and a vibrant magenta guard stripe to define the edges. Within these bands, an abundance of traditional Chinese symbols—including lanterns, butterflies, and stylized blossoms—are rendered in contrasting hues of gold, coral, and pale blue, creating a sense of sophisticated visual density.

Measuring generously, this carpet is scaled perfectly to anchor a main living area or dining space. Its substantial dimensions and powerful coloration ensure that it functions not merely as floor covering, but as the foundational element of a sophisticated interior design scheme. This room size rug offers both historical depth and unparalleled decorative presence. See less
