This magnificent example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving presents a commanding aesthetic rooted in imperial tradition. The careful selection of wool and the density of the knotting speak to the quality inherent in these antique rugs.

The field is dominated by a rich, saturated indigo, providing a dramatic backdrop for the meticulously rendered motifs. This deep, resonant shade is highly sought after, making it a prime example among our collection of blue color rugs. Symmetrical floral sprays, likely peonies or chrysanthemums, elegantly frame a central circular medallion featuring a stylized crane in flight, symbolizing longevity and good fortune.

The palette is expertly balanced, utilizing soft tones of ivory, beige, and cream to delineate the complex border structure. Multiple guard bands feature classic Chinese elements, including the Greek key meander and geometric lattice patterns, providing a sophisticated contrast to the sweeping naturalism of the central field.

Woven during a period of significant artistic transition, this piece retains the formality of classical Chinese design while exhibiting the slightly softer colorations characteristic of the 1920s export market. Its impressive scale ensures it functions perfectly as one of our grand room size rugs, capable of anchoring a formal living space or dining hall with historical presence and undeniable elegance.
