This remarkable 19th-century French biscuit porcelain sculpture depicts an elegant mythological composition of Venus accompanied by Cupid. Signed “Aug. Moreau” and bearing a Sèvres porcelain mark, the figure combines romantic French sculpture with the refined matte appearance of antique white biscuit porcelain.
Venus is modelled in a graceful seated pose with softly flowing drapery sweeping around her body. In one hand she holds a beautifully sculpted floral garland, while a winged Cupid looks upward toward her, creating an intimate and animated composition.
The modelling is particularly detailed throughout the figure, from Venus’ delicately rendered facial features and hair to Cupid’s curls, wings and expressive pose. Floral garlands, roses, drapery and a quiver of arrows at the base add further narrative and decorative detail.
The unglazed antique white biscuit porcelain gives the sculpture a soft, marble-like appearance and allows the fine modelling to remain clearly visible from every angle. The reverse is equally sculptural, with the flowing fabric creating a sweeping sense of movement around the composition.

Good antique condition with age-related signs of wear consistent with a genuine 19th-century porcelain sculpture.
There is a small chip to a finger on Venus’ right hand, which is relatively discreet and does not significantly affect the overall appearance or display value of the piece.
The sculpture retains attractive crisp detail throughout the figures, floral decoration, drapery and base. The matte antique white biscuit surface displays some natural age-related marks and tonal variation, contributing to its antique character.
