Four-panel byobu-style folding screen, hand-painted on silk with a woven brocade-pattern border in a black lacquered frame, hinged between panels. A lotus pond in soft blue-green and grey washes, with open blossoms, broad pads and seed heads and two kingfishers in flight across the upper right. Most of the silk is left bare, and the birds are the only strong colour.
Unsigned as far as we can see: no artist's signature or red chop seal was found in the panels we examined.
Low and wide, so it works standing behind a sofa or bed, folded into a corner, or hung flat.
Approx. 70 in W x 34 in H (open).
Condition: very good. Colours clean, with no tears or staining found.
