This vintage ceramic stool is sculpted in the charming form of a standing elephant, its gently curved trunk, expressive eyes, and detailed folds of skin rendered with genuine craftsmanship beneath a soft, off-white glaze. A richly glazed cobalt blue saddle blanket drapes across the elephant's back, bordered by a warm ochre-brown trim decorated with raised geometric and foliate motifs, centered by a deep blue medallion embossed with a stylized symbol. Rising from the elephant's back is a flat, hexagonal seat top finished in the same glossy cobalt blue, supported by a short, tapered neck that transitions smoothly from the saddle below. The elephant stands on a rectangular ceramic base glazed in sandy, warm brown, its sides carved with a repeating geometric key pattern that echoes the saddle's border detailing and grounds the whole piece visually. Small details like the textured trunk, articulated toenails, and gently folded ears give the sculpture real personality, while the rich, saturated cobalt glaze against the pale ivory body creates striking color contrast throughout.
Use this piece as a functional low stool, plant stand, or side table accent in an entryway, sunroom, or patio. Its whimsical form and bold color palette suit Boho, Global Eclectic, Chinoiserie, Coastal, and Maximalist interiors. The stool measures 16 inches wide, 7½ inches deep, and 18¼ inches high. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and wipe with a barely damp cloth as needed; avoid abrasive cleaners that could dull the glaze. If used as functional seating or a plant stand outdoors, bring indoors during freezing temperatures to prevent cracking. The stool is in very good vintage condition, with the original glaze retaining a rich patina, minor surface wear, and small glaze imperfections consistent with age; it is structurally sound with no visible cracks or repairs.
