A handsome and complete five‑volume antique set of History of the Reformation of the Sixteenth Century by J. H. Merle D’Aubigné, published by the American Tract Society of New York, circa 1835–1850. Bound in warm brown cloth with gilt spine titles, this early ATS edition includes its original engraved frontispieces, each still protected by the original tissue guards — a rare survival that underscores the set’s age and authenticity.
The volumes cover Luther, Zwingli, Calvin, and the major theological and political movements of the Reformation. The set displays beautifully on shelves, consoles, or study desks. Ideal for Traditional, English Country, British Colonial, or Ralph Lauren–style interiors.
A substantial and visually rich historical set with strong decorative and scholarly appeal.

Notably, the frontispiece portrait features a characteristic vintage offsetting transfer onto the protective tissue guard (as shown in the first etching photo,) adding a wonderful layer of authentic 19th-century character. Interior text blocks remain remarkably clean and intact. The last photo shows a corner tear on the first blank page of Vol I, as well as a receipt found in the book.)
