A large hand-stitched silk embroidery recreating Jean-François Millet's 1857 masterpiece The Gleaners, purchased in Shanghai, China, circa 2005. Worked in fine silk thread in the Suzhou embroidery tradition, it captures the painting's warm golden wheat field, haystacks, and three peasant women in soft blues, greens, and ochres. The silk has a subtle sheen that shifts with the light, which is something a print cannot reproduce. Presented under plexiglass in a heavily ornamented Baroque-style antiqued silver/gold frame with scrolling acanthus and floral details.
