An antique Indian bronze betel nut or paan box, of rectangular form with canted corners and a fitted removable lid. The exterior is extensively decorated with finely incised and punched geometric ornament, including repeating triangular, chevron and foliate motifs characteristic of traditional Indian metalwork.
The bronze has developed a deep, dark aged patina with areas of verdigris and oxidation to the interior, giving the piece considerable antique character. Traditionally used for storing betel nut and ingredients associated with the preparation of paan.
