Early 20th-century marine cowl ventilator constructed from copper with a riveted brass collar and circular flanged base. Commonly referred to by mariners as a dorade vent, this type of fitting was designed to provide continuous airflow below deck while helping minimize the entry of spray and was commonly installed aboard yachts, launches, commercial vessels, and other marine craft. The sculptural cowl features a broad rolled rim, prominent riveted construction, and naturally developed copper and brass patina. The rolled rim is a separately applied component that rotates independently of the cowl.
