Monumental in scale and modeled after the elegant female figures of the Tang dynasty, the pair possesses a serene yet commanding presence.

Each lady is portrayed with a full, softly modeled face, downcast almond-shaped eyes, delicate lips, and a composed, contemplative expression, framed by their distinctive high coiffures. Particularly expressive are the hands, with long, carefully articulated fingers emerge from the voluminous sleeves and are held in elegant, restrained gestures across the body. The backs of the hands are notably plump, modeled with softness and realism—an aesthetic consistent with the Tang ideal of beauty. Deep vertical folds give the robes a sense of weight and quiet movement while emphasizing the statues’ stately proportions.

The naturally aged gray stone retains beautiful weathering, mineral variation, and areas of warm earthen patina, giving each figure an individual character while preserving the harmony of the pair. Very rare in scale, these court ladies are wonderful examples of monumental Chinese stone sculpture. They are truly spectacular standing guard at your sophisticate home and garden. See less
