Erwin Eisch was the eldest of six children of the musician and glass engraver Valentin Eisch and his later wife, Therese Hirtreiter. After the Second World War, Valentin Eisch founded his own glassworks in Frauenau.
Following his apprenticeship as a glass engraver in his father's workshop from 1946 to 1949, he studied glass design, sculpture, and interior design at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich until 1952. In 1952, he returned to Frauenau, built a three-pot furnace with his family, and had his first experiences with molten glass. from 1956 to 1959, he continued his studies in sculpture and painting in Munich.
During this time, from 1957 to 1959, he was a founding member of the artists' group SPUR. In 1960, together with his future wife, Gretel Stadler, and Max Strack, he splintered off to form the artists' group RADAMA.
In 1962, Harvey Littleton visited Frauenau, giving Eisch his first contact with the American studio glass movement. In 1964, he received an invitation to the first World Crafts Council in New York City and to the first glass seminar with Harvey Littleton at the University of Wisconsin. He founded his own glass studio in Frauenau in 1965. In the 1980s, Erwin Eisch co-organized the International Glass Symposium in Frauenau three times.
In 1988, he co-founded the "Bild-Werk Frauenau" (Frauenau Art Workshop). He had been married to the sculptor Gretel Stadler since 1962. The couple had five children.
Erwin Eisch played a key role in the conception and opening of the Frauenau Glass Museum in 1975. Thanks to his friendship with the Stuttgart art historian Wolfgang Kermer, Kermer's glass collection was donated to the museum in 1982. The Frauenau collection catalogue, compiled by Wolfgang Kermer, includes 46 works by Erwin Eisch alone, dating from 1967 to 1976. This piece has an attribution mark,
