Exceptional vintage custom-made dining table dating to the 1980s, featuring a substantial solid cedar top paired with two elaborately carved solid wood pedestal bases.
The expansive rectangular top showcases beautiful natural wood grain, knots, tonal variation, and a warm aged finish. A subtly molded edge frames the top and gives the otherwise clean silhouette a refined architectural detail.
The true statement of the piece is its pair of monumental sculptural pedestal bases, richly carved with dramatic scrolling forms, acanthus-inspired foliage, volutes, and other classical details reminiscent of antique French and European furniture. The darker aged finish of the bases creates a striking contrast against the warmer cedar top and beautifully emphasizes the depth of the carving.
Its combination of rustic natural wood and highly decorative carved elements gives the table a distinctive French Provincial / Baroque Revival character while still working beautifully in an eclectic, Mediterranean, European country, or contemporary interior.
Custom made and exceptionally substantial. A spectacular statement dining table with wonderful scale, craftsmanship, texture, and architectural presence.
