This is a gorgeous Chinese export eight panel coromandel double sided screen. It depicts a Palace scene during the ancient times of figures engaging in leisurely activities surrounded by trees, pavilions and walls. The whole scene is intricately incised with color pigments and gilt over heavily lacquered panels, and it is bordered by mythical dragons and decorated with vases on the bottom and sides. Each panel measures 16 inches wide and is connected with brass hinges and pins and is supported by square legs with brass caps. The opposite side has a stark landscape with white cranes and birds in a natural setting of trees and flowers over a matte black lacquer background. This screen comes from a Beverly Hills estate.
