This exceptional example of late Qing Dynasty weaving captures the restrained elegance characteristic of Peking production, offering a sophisticated counterpoint to more densely patterned antique rugs of the period.

The expansive field is dominated by a rich, luminous shade of ivory color rugs, providing a perfect canvas for the sparse, stylized decoration. The allover medallion arrangement is suggested by delicate, flowing vine scrolls and abstracted floral elements rendered in a deep indigo blue, creating a striking contrast that emphasizes the graphic clarity of the design.

A series of meticulously drawn borders frames the composition, anchored by a powerful Greek Key meander pattern executed in the same saturated indigo. This geometric severity is softened by the outer guard bands featuring smaller, repeating floral motifs, demonstrating the balance between classical Chinese symbolism and the emerging aesthetic demands of the international market.

Woven with a fine, lustrous wool pile, this piece retains the soft patina of age while maintaining excellent structural integrity. Its generous proportions make it an ideal room size rugs choice for contemporary or traditional settings, offering a foundation of quiet luxury and historical depth. See less
