This exquisite Chinese Peking rug captures the transitional elegance of the early 20th century, presenting a luminous field set against dramatic borders. The primary palette utilizes a sophisticated blend of ivory beige cream tones, providing a perfect canvas for the intricate detailing rendered in deep cobalt and contrasting teal blues.

The expansive central field is deliberately open, allowing the luxurious sheen of the wool pile to dominate the composition. At its heart lies a beautifully rendered circular medallion, executed in varying shades of blue, surrounded by delicate, trailing vine work. Scattered blossoms extend gracefully toward the corners, embodying classic Chinese symbolism with a restrained, modern sensibility characteristic of the 1920s.

A series of meticulously layered borders frames the design, contrasting the soft field with bold geometry and rich color. The main guard border features stylized floral cartouches alternating with intricate fretwork, demonstrating the high level of artistry inherent in these antique rugs. This careful execution ensures structural integrity and visual depth, enhancing the rug's overall presence.

Dating from the height of the Art Deco period, this piece reflects a time when Eastern weaving traditions embraced Western design demands. Its impressive dimensions make it an ideal room size rug, capable of anchoring a grand living space or formal dining room with unparalleled historical charm and enduring quality. See less
