This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving represents the refined aesthetic of Peking production. Its provenance places it among the most sought-after antique rugs of the period, characterized by high-quality wool and dense knotting that speaks to superior craftsmanship.

The rug is defined by its striking palette, centered on a luxurious, near-navy deep blue field. This saturated tone provides a dramatic backdrop for the secondary colors—soft ivory, pale gold, and lighter shades of cerulean—which illuminate the intricate design elements and lend the piece a remarkable depth and visual resonance suitable for formal settings.

The composition features a sparsely decorated field, allowing the central circular medallion and the corner spandrels to command attention. These areas are richly articulated with stylized Chinese symbolism and delicate floral motifs, reflecting the transition from traditional imperial designs to more open, modern compositions favored during the Republican Era.

Presented in a generous room size format, this Peking piece is perfectly scaled for contemporary interiors requiring a statement floor covering that grounds the space. The hand-knotted wool pile retains a beautiful luster, ensuring that this historic textile functions not merely as an artifact, but as a vibrant, enduring element of sophisticated design. See less
