This exceptional Chinese Peking rug presents the classic minimalist aesthetic popular during the early 20th century. Its substantial dimensions qualify it as one of our preferred room size rugs, designed to anchor a sophisticated living space with quiet authority.

The expansive central field is rendered in a luminous, softly textured wool pile, featuring a warm, neutral shade characteristic of ivory color rugs. This choice of hue maximizes light reflection and provides a calming visual foundation, allowing the dramatic border to provide the primary visual interest without overwhelming the interior space.

Defining the perimeter is a beautifully articulated border executed in rich indigo and cobalt blue tones. The design employs trailing vines, stylized blossoms, and foliage—a superb example of early 20th-century floral rugs that eschews complexity for elegant, sweeping lines and generous negative space.

Originating from the 1920s, this piece embodies the transition from traditional Chinese motifs toward a more modern, simplified design sensibility often associated with Art Deco influence. It remains a timeless and highly desirable example among our collection of fine antique rugs, offering both historical significance and unparalleled decorative versatility. See less
