The body is painted against a creamy white ground with a lively "Lotus Pond" scene: a small bird with dark blue and light blue plumage perches on a slender reed, looking down at a cluster of blooming lotus flowers with detailed petals and seed pods, surrounded by large, curled lotus leaves, buds, and aquatic grasses. The lid is decorated with a smaller, complementary lotus and bird design. The reverse side of the jar bears a four-character inscription in blue calligraphy reading "荷塘情趣" (He Tang Qing Qu), which translates to "Lotus Pond Charm" or "Delightful Lotus Pond," a classic motif symbolizing purity and summer beauty. The base bears a two-character underglaze blue mark reading "玩玉" (Wan Yu), a hallmark often found on 19th/20th-century scholar's objects and fine wares. This is a highly decorative and collectible piece, perfect for storing tea or displaying as part of an Asian art collection.
