This exceptional example of early 20th-century Peking weaving presents a striking contrast between its serene, expansive field and the dramatic, deep indigo border. The wool pile is luxurious, characteristic of the finest antique rugs produced during this period of cultural transition in China.

The composition is defined by a sophisticated use of color, featuring a luminous ivory field that maximizes light and space. This neutral ground provides the perfect stage for the dynamic, stylized dragons rendered in various shades of blue and deep brown. The restrained palette ensures the piece maintains an elegant, architectural presence suitable for modern interiors.

Symbolic iconography dominates the design, featuring the powerful Imperial Dragon motif repeated throughout the composition. A finely detailed, circular central medallion anchors the field, depicting a coiled dragon amidst stylized clouds, representing power and good fortune. This focus on symbolic narrative is a hallmark of high-quality Chinese textiles from the Republican era.

Framed by a classic Greek key guard border, the main border features large, sinuous dragons that traverse the deep blue expanse. As a true room size rugs piece, this Peking carpet offers substantial coverage, making it an ideal anchor for a formal dining area or grand salon, providing both historical depth and undeniable visual impact.
