A delightful salvaged remnant of an antique sign that we believe originally said Distributor of Huggins. There might have also been a word or image to the left of Huggins—though we're not fully sure.
Now, what is Huggins? It could have be George Albert Huggins (1840-1923) who distinguished himself as an inventive tinsmith for developing a patent for a new steel milk can. Or it could have also been Christy & Huggins Ice Co. of Murfreesboro TN. Or the London base company from 1836, Huggins & Co. Ltd who made beer. It's all a mystery at the moment.
Back to our sign that's in our hand. What we have left is a plenty gorgeous and decorative sign that would make a great addition to any collection, or to those intreated in typography. These old signs always cause us to enjoy the old style of writing and sign and type design. Now as to the letters, the top line is a little more straightforward but the bottom word is more embellished with a more goldish color and red outline. We even like the little unevenness of the left side of the board and how it's broken off; It has a little more character than if it was a straight line.
