This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving showcases the restrained elegance characteristic of the Peking style. The field is dominated by a rich, deeply saturated indigo, making it a striking piece among blue color rugs. The use of a monochrome ground allows the intricate border and central medallion to emerge with subtle definition.

The design adheres to classical Chinese principles, featuring an open, expansive field anchored by a finely detailed central medallion and complementary corner spandrels. These elements are rendered in lighter shades of blue and soft camel tones, highlighting stylized floral and geometric motifs. The border employs traditional Shou symbols, representing longevity and good fortune, framed by delicate scrolling vines.

Woven during a period when Chinese workshops were adapting traditional artistry for international export, this piece retains a high degree of technical mastery. The clarity of the design and the luxurious pile quality confirm its status as a premium textile from the era. It stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of antique rugs produced in the imperial capital region.

The generous dimensions of this carpet ensure it can serve as the primary foundational element in a sophisticated interior. Its deep blue hue provides a grounding effect, while the minimalist design prevents visual clutter. This refined textile is ideally suited for placement as one of our most distinguished room size rugs, offering both historical depth and contemporary versatility. See less
