Exceptional mid-19th-century porcelain coffee pot by Carl Tielsch & Co. of Altwasser, Silesia, dating to approximately 1845–1850, during the earliest years of the manufactory.
The elaborate Rococo Revival form is richly decorated with extensive raised and encrusted gilding, scrolling ornament and hand-painted floral details. The dramatic handle, sculptural spout, domed lid and ornate finial reflect the renewed European fascination with 18th-century Rococo porcelain during the mid-19th century.
The underside bears the early TPM mark associated with Carl Tielsch's Altwasser factory. Carl Tielsch established the porcelain manufactory in 1845, and this form of the TPM mark is documented from approximately 1845–1850, providing unusually useful evidence for dating the piece.
The design reflects the influence of earlier Meissen Rococo porcelain but is properly identified as Carl Tielsch Rococo Revival porcelain, rather than Meissen.
Particularly noteworthy is the survival of the extensive gilded decoration. The gold remains remarkably strong for a porcelain piece approaching 180 years of age, giving the coffee pot considerable decorative presence.
A handsome early example from one of the important Silesian porcelain manufactories of the 19th century and an impressive display piece for a collection of European porcelain.
