A striking large-scale Blenko #675 art glass piece in the company’s iconic Tangerine color, designed by Joel Philip Myers and first appearing in the Blenko catalog in 1967.
Originally designed as an ashtray, the substantial square form features the distinctive molded swirling pattern of the #675 design. Blenko’s heat-sensitive Tangerine glass creates especially dramatic color variation here, shifting from luminous golden yellow through brilliant orange to a deep red outer rim. The varying thickness of the glass intensifies the color and gives the piece an almost glowing appearance in the light.
At approximately 10 inches square, #675 has considerable sculptural presence and lends itself beautifully to contemporary use. Beyond its original function, it works as a serving dish for hors d’oeuvres, a substantial catchall, centerpiece, or simply as a striking example of American Mid-Century Modern art glass.
Joel Philip Myers joined Blenko in the early 1960s and became one of the company’s influential designers during a particularly creative period in its history. The #675 design first appears in Blenko’s 1967 catalog and remained in production into the 1970s.
An especially vibrant example of classic Blenko design, combining Myers’ bold sculptural form with the extraordinary color effects of Tangerine glass.
