The stylized owl has a wonderfully graphic form, with a warm tan and brown textured body contrasted by brilliant blue and green glazed eyes. The deeply modeled surface, simplified geometry and expressive oversized eyes are characteristic of Londi's playful approach to animal forms for Bitossi during the mid-century period.

While the vivid blue and green eye decoration recalls Londi's famous Rimini Blu palette, the owl itself is not a Rimini Blu piece; instead, the colorful glazed eyes provide a striking contrast to the earthy neutral body.

The underside is marked 7569-B, identifying the Bitossi model/decor variant.

A particularly appealing example of Aldo Londi's whimsical animal designs and a wonderful addition to a collection of Bitossi, Raymor or Italian mid-century ceramics.
