The vase features a rich colored exterior layered over an opaque white interior, creating the crisp color contrast characteristic of Italian cased glass. Its tall, slender neck rises from a generously rounded body, giving the piece an elegant sculptural profile and wonderful presence despite its relatively narrow footprint.

Produced in the Empoli region of Tuscany, an important center of Italian decorative glassmaking during the postwar period, vessels like this were created for the flourishing international market for modern Italian design. The clean proportions and saturated color make this a particularly versatile example.

At 17 inches tall, the vase has enough scale to stand beautifully on a console, mantel or dining table and works equally well displayed alone or within a collection of Italian art glass.

Unsigned, as is typical of much vintage Empoli production.
