A wonderfully sculptural mid-century Italian ceramic rooster from the Ugo Zaccagnini manufactory in Florence, with undeniable attitude.
Standing an impressive 13.5 inches tall, the rooster combines traditional Italian ceramic craftsmanship with a strikingly modern, stylized form. Its glossy creamy-white body and brilliant red comb contrast beautifully with the matte, faux-bois ceramic base. Particularly distinctive are the simplified modeling, elongated silhouette and wonderfully expressive blank eyes, which give the bird considerable personality and presence.
The underside bears the Zaccagnini factory mark together with model or mold number A.2017/1/A.
Founded in Florence by Ugo Zaccagnini, the Zaccagnini manufactory became particularly well known during the mid-20th century for imaginative decorative ceramics and sculptural animal figures. Following Ugo Zaccagnini's death in 1937, his son Urbano assumed leadership of the firm and expanded its production of decorative figurines for both the Italian and international markets.
Florence, Italy, circa 1940s–1950s.
Approximately 8.5"W × 5"D × 13.5"H.
Condition: Good vintage condition. There is a small area at the neck that appears consistent with a manufacturing irregularity rather than later damage. Please see photographs for detail. Otherwise presents beautifully with age-appropriate characteristics.

It seamlessly blends in and feels more like patina than an imperfection. There is some crazing and staining on the bottom of the piece which attests to its age. less
