Each sconce … Read more A pair of Italian ‘Model 2225’ wall sconces designed by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte in the 1960s. Each sconce is composed of beveled glass, its crisp edges precisely cut to catch and refract the light with subtle brilliance. The glass panels are gently curved, the beveling adding depth and dimension, producing delicate highlights along the perimeter and a soft diffusion across the surface.

When illuminated, the light radiates outward with a soft, glowing luminosity, accentuating the clarity of the glass. These sconces are ideal for framing a mirror, punctuating a hallway, or adding refined atmosphere to a living room or bedroom.

Max Ingrand, a celebrated French designer and master glassmaker, collaborated extensively with Fontana Arte, an Italian lighting and glass design company, during the mid-20th century. Max Ingrand became the artistic director of Fontana Arte in 1954, a position he held until 1967. During this period, he was instrumental in shaping the company’s design direction, emphasizing the use of glass in innovative ways.

Ingrand was known for his meticulous approach to glasswork, often treating glass not just as a functional material but as a medium for artistic expression. His designs for Fontana Arte combined elegance with modernity, making use of etched, frosted, and colored glass to create visually stunning and functional pieces. The collaboration between Max Ingrand and Fontana Arte resulted in some of the most iconic lighting designs of the 20th century.

Condition: In great vintage condition, with a soft patina to the brass elements. One very minor edge chip, as shown in photos. These sconces have been professionally rewired by our team of restorationists and accept two E12 candelabra base light bulbs.
