A dramatic vintage récamier (fainting couch) in the French Empire style with a black lacquered frame hand-carved with a full swan at one end — wings folded along the rail, neck arched gracefully up into a raised headrest — opposite a tighter scrolled volute arm. Gold-gilt banding, carved florets, and a pierced gallery along the apron continue the motif around the base, with turned, ring-banded legs and brass nailhead trim finishing it off. Reupholstered in a neutral cream fabric with a fine gray-blue honeycomb pattern, with a matching bolster pillow.
This piece has been refinished with black lacquer with gold-gilt accents, and reupholstered. Since being refinished, the couch has been used exclusively in a professional studio production setting — never placed in a residential home.
