This exceptional Chinese Peking weaving presents a sophisticated, muted palette typical of the early 20th century. Its generous dimensions classify it as a true room size piece, ideal for anchoring a formal living space or dining area with understated elegance.

The primary field color is a luminous, soft taupe or muted beige, which reads as a warm ivory color rugs in certain lights, providing a rich, velvety texture characteristic of high-quality Peking wool. This neutral ground allows the secondary colors—primarily deep indigo and sky blue—to articulate the design with striking clarity.

While the border features dense, scrolling floral vines and stylized blossoms in contrasting blues and creams, the central field employs a sparse, elegant allover pattern of scattered motifs. These delicate sprays and individual symbols float gracefully across the expansive ground, maintaining an open, airy aesthetic that avoids visual weight.

A superb example of the refined artistry produced during the Republic Period, this piece reflects the transitional style that blended traditional Chinese iconography with Art Deco sensibilities. Its enduring quality and refined aesthetic make it a highly desirable addition to any collection of fine antique rugs. See less
