This exceptional Peking carpet captures the refined elegance of early 20th-century Chinese weaving, presenting a sophisticated balance between spacious design and intricate detail. Its generous dimensions classify it as a true room size rug, ideal for anchoring a formal living space or dining room.

The expansive field is rendered in a soft, luminous ivory color, providing a neutral canvas that allows the deep indigo border to frame the composition with dramatic contrast. This masterful use of negative space is characteristic of the finest Chinese production from this period, emphasizing tranquility and light within the interior space.

The primary border is densely decorated with traditional Chinese symbolism, featuring scrolling vines, stylized birds, and large, beautifully rendered floral rugs that spill inward toward the central field. A small, detailed medallion anchors the center, depicting deer and other auspicious animals within a dark blue reserve.

Woven in wool with a robust knot structure typical of Peking production, this piece exhibits excellent quality and enduring appeal. It stands as a superb example within the realm of antique rugs, offering both historical significance and timeless decorative value for the discerning collector. See less
