This exceptional piece exemplifies the elegance and technical skill of early 20th-century Chinese rugs. Its design reflects the transitional period when traditional motifs were reinterpreted through the lens of Western Art Deco sensibilities, resulting in a dramatic, highly stylized aesthetic.

The luxurious, hand-knotted wool pile is dominated by a rich, saturated jade green field, providing a vibrant backdrop for the cascading botanical elements. The open composition, featuring clusters of peonies, wisteria, and grapevines, is characteristic of the finest antique rugs from this era, emphasizing natural movement and depth. The subtle abrash across the field speaks to the natural dye processes and the rug's long history.

A narrow, contrasting border in warm apricot frames the expansive field, highlighting the rug's impressive scale. The intricate floral sprays and ribbon-tied baskets are rendered in a sophisticated palette of plum, sapphire, and rose, creating visual interest without overwhelming the central green expanse. This substantial textile is an ideal choice for defining significant living spaces, offering the necessary coverage of a large oversized rug.

Retaining a beautiful, soft patina commensurate with its age, this rug is a magnificent decorative statement. It offers a rare combination of bold color, sophisticated design, and historical provenance, making it a compelling addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors that seek a focal point of refined artistry.
