This exceptional piece represents the height of early 20th-century Chinese weaving, presenting a sophisticated aesthetic that elevates it beyond a mere floor covering into a collectible antique rug.

The expansive field is rendered in a saturated, deep blue hue, providing a dramatic contrast to the pale ivory border. This striking color choice emphasizes the clarity of the design elements, drawing the eye immediately to the central circular medallion, which depicts an arrangement of symbolic scholarly objects.

A complex border system frames the composition, featuring an inner Greek key fretwork line followed by a broad ivory band adorned with alternating circular reserves containing stylized flowers and auspicious symbols. The generous room size format ensures this textile commands attention, defining the scale of any grand interior space.

The corners of the main field are anchored by elegant, sweeping floral sprays rendered in soft gold and beige tones, echoing the palette of the border. This careful balance between the expansive monochromatic field and the detailed, naturalistic ornamentation exemplifies the refined taste characteristic of the 1920s decorative arts movement. See less
