This magnificent example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving presents a saturated indigo field, characteristic of the finest blue color rugs from the Peking region. Its substantial dimensions and rich coloration make it an exceptional foundation piece for a distinguished interior.

The design is a highly detailed, pictorial narrative, featuring traditional Chinese iconography such as stylized pagodas, mythical creatures, and serene human figures. The primary palette of deep blue and soft ivory is accented by subtle shades of light blue and beige. The central field is densely populated with delicate flowering branches and trailing vines, characteristic of fine floral rugs.

Woven during a period of significant artistic transition in China, this piece maintains the classical structure while embracing a slightly more open, decorative aesthetic popular in the Republic era. The high-quality wool pile and meticulous knotting ensure the longevity expected of genuine antique rugs. This rug is a testament to the enduring skill and refined taste of the Peking master weavers.

Possessing the scale necessary to anchor a formal dining room or grand salon, this piece falls firmly into the category of room size rugs. Its rich, saturated color and intricate border offer a sophisticated foundation that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors, providing depth and historical gravitas to any space.
