Vintage Polish studio pottery tankard bearing the impressed mark of ceramic artist Stanisław Konieczny (1933–1981), Gdańsk. The underside bears an impressed KONIECZNY / GDAŃSK mark surrounding a crowned double-cross emblem associated with the city of Gdańsk. Konieczny was an important figure in postwar Polish studio ceramics, known for his experimental glazing techniques and sculptural ceramic forms. This piece is a distinctive example of Polish midcentury decorative ceramics, combining the traditional kufel form with expressive relief decoration.
The substantial ceramic vessel features deeply modeled figural and ornamental relief beneath a richly varied reddish-brown glaze. Raised scrolling forms and stylized motifs encircle the cylindrical body, complemented by a sculptural handle and rounded pedestal base.
The glaze shifts between warm chestnut, dark brown, and reddish tones, with subtle variations in sheen that emphasize the dimensional decoration.
