This late 19th-century Louis XV chest of drawers was recently restored in the Parisian district of Faubourg du Meuble, renowned for its cabinetmakers. It bears the workshop's mark beneath the marble top.

The chest features an elegant front and curved sides, with three spacious drawers adorned with rich, chased gilt bronze fittings, including foliate-inspired handles and escutcheons, as well as decorative corner pieces and leg finials. It rests on tall, curved legs topped with bronze sabots. The piece retains an attractive veined marble top in cream and honey tones, perfectly suited to the undulating silhouette of the piece.

Its deep black finish, recently achieved in the historic Faubourg Saint-Antoine of Paris, renowned for centuries as the great district of cabinetmakers and furniture artisans, is particularly noteworthy. from the Middle Ages, and especially after the privileges granted to artisans established in this area, the Faubourg Saint-Antoine became Paris's main center for the manufacture, restoration, and sale of fine furniture. Generations of cabinetmakers, carvers, gilders, marquetry makers, and varnishers worked there, shaping a craft tradition that still identifies the neighborhood as the cradle of Parisian furniture. During the 18th and 19th centuries, it housed thousands of specialized workshops and was known as the "Faubourg du Meuble" (Furniture District), supplying furniture to both the French aristocracy and upper bourgeoisie.

The chest of drawers retains a stamp beneath the marble top.
