A pair of antique British fire dogs featuring a beautiful patina from age and use; high-quality brass construction, marked on the back with a relief stamp and the number 1058, dating to circa 1880.
These fire dogs (also known as andirons) are executed in a classic Victorian style, featuring a decorative urn motif, acanthus ornamentation, and gracefully curved legs. Fire dogs are placed in pairs in an open fireplace to elevate the firewood off the ground, thereby improving airflow and ventilation while the fire is burning.
The items are in good antique condition, showing signs of age and use—such as discoloration and blue oxidation—consistent with their age; however, they remain perfectly functional and very sturdy. Please check the photos for further details.
