Pair of Italian bedside tables dating from the 1950s, characterized by refined construction and a particularly well-considered design, combining functionality with careful attention to proportion and detail.
The structures are veneered in richly figured wood, with the pronounced grain giving the pieces much of their visual character. The tops are framed by a continuous raised edge that follows the softly curved profile of the cases, while the elevated rear section creates a small open compartment and contributes to their distinctive silhouette.
The fronts feature two drawers arranged side by side, each fitted with elegant brass handles. The drawers retain the natural movement of the wood grain and are framed by fine decorative lines that emphasize their construction. A small shaped detail runs along the lower front edge, a discreet feature that reflects the level of attention given to the furniture's execution.
Particularly interesting are the glass shelves fitted within the upper compartments and supported by small brackets. The transparent glass keeps the open section visually light while providing additional space for books, personal objects, or decorative pieces.
The bedside tables stand on four slender, slightly splayed tapered legs, a characteristic feature of Italian furniture of the period. Their elongated proportions give the pieces a light, almost sculptural appearance. Each leg terminates in a small brass sabot, echoing the brass handles and adding a refined metallic detail at the base.
The overall design balances the richness of the wood grain with the softly shaped sides and slender supports. These are not merely functional bedroom pieces, but well-defined small-scale examples of Italian furniture design that can also work naturally as occasional tables in other interiors.
