A rare Anton Lorenz B36P-type cantilever armchair, dating from circa the 1930s and originating from Czechoslovakia. The chair features the characteristic cantilever construction of early tubular-steel furniture, with a chrome-plated tubular-steel frame, sculptural wooden armrests and an upholstered seat and backrest. The design belongs to the Bauhaus / Functionalist tradition of tubular-steel furniture. Anton Lorenz was an important figure in the early development and commercial production of tubular-steel furniture, and Thonet's historical documentation identifies Lorenz among the designers associated with its tubular-steel collection. The chair retains its original orange upholstery, which is now suitable for reupholstery. The existing textile has visible age-related wear and fraying, while the chrome frame and wooden armrests display authentic signs of age and use.
