Each glass is individually … Read more Striking set of six hand-blown Murano art glass tumblers in the Venetian goti de fornasa tradition. Each glass is individually formed in a luminous sea-blue to blue-green glass and worked with an exuberant assortment of multicolored glass inclusions in emerald green, cobalt and sky blue, yellow, amber, red, black and white.

Particularly distinctive is the form: each tumbler begins with a hand-shaped, roughly hexagonal lower body and gradually softens upward into a rounded, irregular organic rim. Swirling horizontal striations and subtle variations in wall thickness emphasize the hand-worked character of the glass, while suspended multicolor murrine and glass fragments create a different abstract composition in every piece.

Dense green inclusions, occasional vivid red and black accents, and sweeping amber and blue passages give the glasses an unusually painterly quality. No two are identical—the variation in shape, color placement and decoration is integral to the traditional goti de fornasa aesthetic.

Goti de fornasa, or “furnace glasses,” developed from the Murano tradition of glassworkers creating individual drinking vessels at the furnace, often incorporating available colored glass, cane and murrine. Their deliberately individual character has since become a recognized form of Venetian art glass.

An especially sculptural set that functions equally well as collectible Murano glass and usable barware.

Unmarked. Specific Murano furnace remains unidentified; attribution is based on construction, technique and comparison with documented Murano goti de fornasa production.
