An impressive French Louis XVI style breakfront buffet, enfilade or sideboard, crafted in mahogany and dating to the early 20th century, circa 1910.
The substantial cabinet is distinguished by its handsome architectural breakfront façade and beautifully balanced neoclassical proportions. Crafted in mahogany, the piece has been ebonized and finished with a deep, lustrous museum-quality hand-rubbed French polish, creating an exceptionally rich surface and providing a dramatic backdrop for the warm gilt-brass detailing.
Four paneled doors are outlined with fine brass moldings and fitted with elegant brass hardware. The doors open to reveal generous interior storage with adjustable shelving, making this antique French enfilade as functional as it is decorative.
The cabinet is surmounted by a substantial intact white Carrara marble slab, whose subtle natural veining provides a striking contrast to the highly polished ebony finish below. The projecting central section creates the characteristic breakfront profile and gives the long façade additional architectural depth.
Raised on elegant tapered Louis XVI style feet with gilt-brass collars and sabots, the enfilade embodies the restrained symmetry and classical vocabulary associated with French Neoclassical design.
The combination of ebonized mahogany, white Carrara marble, gilt brass and museum-quality French polishcreates a sophisticated black, white and gold palette that allows this piece to work equally well in a traditional interior or as a dramatic statement piece within a contemporary setting.
With its generous proportions and extensive storage, it would make an exceptional dining room buffet, sideboard, credenza, living room cabinet or grand entry console.
This buffet is in very nice antique condition with only minor surface wear consistent with age and use. The photos accurately depict the condition.
