A charming pair of small antique Chinese Famille Rose porcelain bowls, beautifully decorated with colorful hand-painted floral motifs in the vibrant enamels associated with traditional Chinese export and domestic wares.
Each bowl bears a red 吉祥如意 (jí xiáng rú yì) seal-script mark on the underside. This is an auspicious commendation mark rather than an imperial reign mark. The phrase combines jí xiáng, meaning good fortune or auspiciousness, with rú yì, meaning “as you wish,” and expresses a traditional wish for good fortune and the fulfillment of one’s desires.
The colorful floral decoration, heavier enamel work and auspicious mark are consistent with Chinese porcelain produced around the late Qing Dynasty into the early Republic period, approximately late 19th to early 20th century.
Wonderful little pieces for a collection of antique Chinese porcelain, Famille Rose, or Asian decorative arts.
